Low-cost, small-capacity memory for IIoT and smart city applications

The market is vying for gigabit capabilities that keep rising. Many programs, however, only use a small portion of this storage capacity. Green IIoT technologies like charging stations, smart meters, and PV inverters are examples of typical uses. In these devices, only a tiny amount of memory is needed to run boot software or connect to cloud apps. Swissbit is expanding its selection of memory solutions in response to these demands by releasing e.MMC and SD memory cards with tiny sizes ranging from 4 to 8 GB. They have a 3D-TLC-NAND foundation and are high endurance, industrial reliability, and power failure prevention optimized. As a result, they perform better than similar MLC variations and on par with more expensive SLC units.

In smart cities, the spread of IIoT technologies is particularly pronounced. Smart meters, intelligent building management controllers, and the production and use of sustainable energy through charging stations are important elements in this scenario.

Swissbit currently provides specialized small-capacity storage media for the smooth operation of these green IoT applications. These have capacities between 4 and 8 GB, making them perfect for use as boot media or for logging tiny quantities of data without compromising performance or longevity. Due to their flexible, interchangeable SD memory cards or embedded components in the form of e.MMCs, the models of the EM-30 and S-56(u) series offer the highest level of reliability. They also promise complete data security.

Swissbit EM-30 and S-56(u) Series

The 153 ball BGA in the EM-30 product line is fully backward compatible and conforms to e.MMC-5.1 requirements. It is appropriate for usage in extreme climatic conditions and has an extended temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. With storage sizes ranging from 4GB to 8GB and a foundation of dependable industrial-grade 3D-TLC-NAND, the range provides sequential data rates of up to 280MB/s read and 120MB/s write, as well as 11k IOPS random read and 16k IOPS random write.

Sequential read and write data rates for the S-56(u) SD and microSD memory cards are 95 MB/s and 74 MB/s, respectively. The cards provide random read IOPS of 2,200 and random write IOPS of 1,300, making them well-suited for high-performance applications. The S-56 series has the highest endurance for workloads that need a lot of writing because to its superior over-provisioning and pSLC technology. Its endurance for modest data logging even beats an SLC card for the first time when combined with up to 100,000 PE cycles.

White goods, payment and point-of-sale systems, industrial control systems, and medical diagnostic and patient monitoring devices are some additional typical uses for small-capacity flash memory.
